Configuring regular LANDesk Antivirus pattern file updates

In order for LANDesk Antivirus to be most effective, the Core Server and Clients must be configured to update the Antivirus pattern files regularly.

The clients can be configured to update their pattern files from the LANDesk Core Server only, LANDesk Core Server with fallback to the internet, Internet with fallback to the Core Server, and Internet only depending on your needs.

This article discusses these steps.

Configuring scheduled pattern file updates on the LANDesk Core Server:

1. Open Security and Patch Manager Tool in the Management Suite Console

2. Click the Download Updates icon (first icon).

3. Select ONLY “LANDesk Antivirus Updates” and then click “Schedule Update”

Under "Task Name:" Rename the task from “Download Security and Patch Content” to “Download LANDesk Antivirus Pattern Files” and click OK.

4. This will open up the Schedule Task window.  Go to “Schedule Task” in the left hand pane and select “Start Later”.   Change the time to the time that you would like this to run daily (preferably this will be before your clients are scheduled to download the Pattern File Updates).

Note: For the task, your options are to repeat every Hour, Day, Week, or Month.   If you want to run a task less often than every hour, and more often than once a day, you will need to create seperate tasks to run at different times.   In this case, it would be advised to name the tasks with the time they are scheduled to run, such as: "Update LANDesk AV Definitions - 12:00pm" and "Update LANDesk AV Definitions - 8:00pm" or something similar.

Note: This will create a scheduled task that will run at the interval you selected.   Make sure that this scheduled task is not deleted, or the pattern files will not be kept up to date.
